Heat Pumps

Heat Pump Systems – Not Just for Heating!

In the simplest terms, a heat pump uses electricity and refrigerant flow of to move heat from one location to another.

To provide heat, a heat pump works by extracting heat from the air outside of your home and transferring it to refrigeration / freon inside the system. The freon is then compressed in the compressor, which increases the temperature significantly; the freon is then moved to the indoor coil of the heat pump-air handler, which then passes air over the hot indoor coil from the blower, in return heating the home.

Using a heat pump is an efficient alternative to conventional gas heating and cooling systems, saving up to 30% on your heating costs in the winter, and drastically cutting your cooling costs in the summer. Deciding whether or not your heat pump should be repaired will vary based on the usage and maintenance of the unit. Clearly, a properly serviced system will almost certainly perform longer than one that is not. While manufacturers typically recommend replacing older systems, a home owner could have regular performed service / maintenance on their system and almost double the life expectancy.
